Preceptors
Robert A. Kilroy, Pharm.D., BCPS
Robert A. Kilroy, Pharm.D., is the coordinator of Pharmaceutical Resource Utilization at Shands at the University of Florida and clinical associate professor in the departments of Pharmacy Practice and Pharmacy Health Care Administration at the University of Florida College of Pharmacy.
Dr. Kilroy is responsible for pharmaceutical contracts, management of drug purchasing, regulatory compliance and pharmaceutical resource utilization. Dr. Kilroy is also the consultant pharmacist for Shands’ Ambulatory Dialysis Center and Shands Florida Surgical Center. He is a board-certified pharmacotherapy specialist. His clinical practice site for training pharmacy students and residents is the Shands’ Anticoagulation Clinic. He received both his B.S. in Pharmacy and his Pharm.D. from Purdue University.
Alan K. Knudsen, M.S.
Alan K. Knudsen, M.S. is the director of Pharmacy Services at Shands at the University of Florida and assistant dean of the University of Florida College of Pharmacy.
Mr. Knudsen received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the University of Utah College of Pharmacy, a Master of Science at the University of Maryland, and an ASHP residency at the University of Maryland Hospital. Previous positions at Shands include senior pharmacist for Decentralized Services, supervisor of IV Therapy and assistant director of Pharmacy Services. His current practice interests include information support for pharmacy services; development of innovative practice models, which demonstrate the value of Pharmacy Services; and automation of medication systems.
James McAllister IV, Pharm.D., M.S.
James McAllister IV, Pharm.D., M.S., is the Assistant Director of Inpatient Pharmacy Operations for Shands at the University of Florida.
Dr. McAllister received his Pharm.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an M.S. in Health System Pharmacy Administration at the University of Wisconsin, and completed ASHP-accredited PGY1 general practice and PGY2 specialty residencies in Administration and Leadership at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. Prior to joining Shands, Dr. McAllister was a manager of operations at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia, where he was responsible for pharmacy services in their Ambulatory Care Center, Children’s Medical Center, Comprehensive Cancer Center and both the adult and pediatric OR pavilions. His current practice interests include integrated patient-care delivery systems, use of automation and technology in the provision of pharmacy services and design and analysis of physical and psychosocial work environments.
Thomas Johns, Pharm.D., BCPS
Thomas Johns, Pharm.D., is presently an assistant director, Pharmacy Services at Shands at the University of Florida and clinical assistant professor of the University of Florida College of Pharmacy.
Dr. Johns received his Pharm.D. from the University of Florida, followed by an ASHP-accredited specialty residency in Adult Internal Medicine at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville, Florida. Dr. Johns is board-certified in pharmacotherapy. Dr. Johns is a past president of the Florida Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Matt Jenkins, Pharm.D., M.S.
Matt Jenkins, Pharm.D., M.S., is currently pharmacy coordinator responsible for Central Operations for Shands at the University of Florida. Dr. Jenkins received his Pharm.D. from Auburn University and an M.S. in Health System Pharmacy Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, and completed ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice and PGY-2 specialty residencies in Health System Pharmacy Administration from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. His areas of interest include controlled substance diversion detection and prevention, automation, drug policy and outcomes research.
