Shands at UF
Established in 1958, Shands at the University of Florida, located in Gainesville, Fla., is a private, not-for-profit academic medical center that specializes in tertiary and quaternary care for critically ill patients.
Shands at UF offers some of the most comprehensive medical services and is one of the Southeast’s leading referral medical centers. It continually receives recognition as one of the nation’s top hospitals by U.S.News & World Report because of its dedication to patient care, education and research.
Areas of excellence at Shands at UF include cancer, cardiovascular, neurology, neurosurgical and transplant services and pediatric services at Shands Hospital for Children. Shands at UF operates a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and one of Florida’s four regional burn centers. It is also one of only 15 Agency for HealthCare Administration-designated stroke centers in the state and the only one in north central Florida.
Shands at UF has 852 beds. It serves more than 30,000 inpatients and has more than 1 million outpatient and clinic visits each year. Approximately 800 UF faculty physicians practice in 100 areas of specialty care.
